    Why is blog pagination like domain.com.au/blog/page/10/ contain a canonical back to /blog/

    Other WP sites this does not happen. How do we remove

    I am sure the system must be mixing up taxonomies or something.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

    Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), could you please check if the Noindex Paginated Pages option is disabled in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Misc Pages?

    However, you can easily customize the canonical URL returned on the paginated pages by using the following filter on your theme’s functions.php file:

    /**
     * Allow changing of the canonical URL.
     *
     * @param string $canonical The canonical URL.
     */
    add_filter( 'rank_math/frontend/canonical', function( $canonical ) {
    	return $canonical;
    });

    I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Noindex is not on. Why would noindex turn on canonicals anyway?

    I added the canonical code in the fnctions.php and nothing happened. What is supposed to happen? I prefer the canonical to either self-canonical or even to be removed from blog pagination pages

    The canonicals are wrong and rankmath cannot understand /blog/ due to the fact that the post pages have not been set to our blog. The developers did not custom design our blog to work like that and now screws up the plugin.

    Hello,

    We are so sorry about that.

    Do you have a staging site where we can test this? We do not see the issue from our end as we are not able to replicate the same setup that you have.

    It looks like you have not used the “Blog” page in WP > Settings > Reading and that is what is setting the plugin off.

    We look forward to hearing back from you.

    You can see everything live?

    On any pagination URL domain.com.au/blog/page/10/ or example (see sensitive data), the canonical is domain.com.au/blog/ which is terrible for our SEO and only on this client.I use your plugin often and it is fine.

    However, once we set posts page in WP settings, it solves it and the canonicals begin to self-canonical.

    I honestly, dont know what else to say. I understand you may need access to dev server to diagnose, but surely you have this on your to test? Not sure it is feasible but will check.

    The plugin nor WP knows the /blog is actually the blog without assignment. I knnow that now.

    Devs are looking into this since i found the issue.

    Hello,

    We are glad to hear that.

    We are awaiting your reply on the email you had sent.
