    Hello,

I am having trouble with the og:description tag when I post an article to Facebook. Instead of the excerpt, the post shows the featured image URL. Is there a way to fix this?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

I’ve checked your site in Facebook Debugger Tool, and it seems that it’s already showing fine. Please see the screenshot in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Could you please check again on your end? If you’re not referring to your homepage, could you please also add the affected URL to investigate further?

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. The home page seems to be working fine. My concern is the posts. When I try to share the posts to Facebook the description is the featured image’s URL rather than the post’s excerpt.

Take this post for example: https://phuketradiofrancophonie.com/sidonie-gabrielle-colette-1873-1954/
I’ve attached more screenshots for your reference.

    Hello,

I’ve checked your post URL on heymeta and inspect your page source. I can see that you’ve set the og:description properly.

Please see the screenshot that I included in the sensitive data section.

However, when I checked your post URL on the Facebook debugger tool, it returns 206 code which explains why it doesnt fully picked up your og:descriptions

    206 means:

206 “Partial Content”: This message might occur if a client has a partial copy of content in its cache and requests and update of missing content. This message indicates that the partial request succeeded.

It looks like it might be a server configuration issue to do with caching.

Do you run Varnish or anything like that on your server?

You might want to check with your host regarding this.

You can pass this article to them if you are running varnish:
    https://www.varnish-cache.org/lists/pipermail/varnish-misc/2011-February/020060.html

I hope that helps, once your post is fully reachable by Facebook bot then you should see the updated description reflected accordingly.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.
