Difference between single post description and description

    Hello, I don’t understand the difference between single post description and description. I have set the single post description to %sitedesc%, but made no change concerning description. So it’s still set to %seo_description% – could this be the cause that sometimes Google for some posts shows up a snippet that belongs to the single post description and for other posts a snippet that is an excerpt from the description?

    When I change the settings, do they work only for new posts or also for posts that have already been published?

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

    When you update the settings, it will also affect your published post. The description should show %seo_description% – this will ensure your SEO Description that you set up via Rank Math can also be used for your schema details.

    %excerpt% – Automatically generates an excerpt from the first few hundred characters on your website. It mostly shows the first 160 or so characters taken from your first couple of paragraphs.

    %excerpt_only% – Takes the meta description from the excerpt field that you manually have to fill in WP:
