    Hello Rank Math Support Team,

I am encountering an issue where my tag archives are returning a 404 Not Found error immediately after enabling the tag sitemap feature in Rank Math.

The root cause appears to be an unwanted ‘1’ being appended to the URL of the tag archives. For example, instead of accessing the correct URL, the system seems to be redirecting or looking for an incorrect URL structure, such as: [Your_Site_URL]/product_tag-sitemap1.xml (or similar structure based on the tag name).

Could you please advise on how to resolve this incorrect URL generation/redirection issue so that my
tag archive pages function correctly without this extra ‘1’?

    /post_tag-sitemap1.xml

    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the 404 error on your tag archives after enabling the tag sitemap feature in Rank Math. This can happen due to incorrect URL generation or conflicts with other settings.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Check Permalink Settings: Ensure that your permalink structure is set correctly. You can do this by navigating to Settings → Permalinks in your WordPress dashboard and re-saving your settings.

    2. Enable Sitemap Module: Make sure that the Sitemap module is enabled in Rank Math. You can check this by going to Rank Math SEO → Dashboard and ensuring the Sitemap module is active.

    3. Review Tag Archive Settings: Go to Rank Math SEO → Sitemap Settings → Tags and ensure that the Include in Sitemap option is enabled. After making any changes, click the Save Changes button.

    4. Clear Cache: If you are using a caching plugin, clear your cache to ensure that the latest changes are reflected. Additionally, if your server has caching enabled, consider clearing that as well.

    5. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Sometimes, other plugins can conflict with Rank Math. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.

    6. Custom Rewrite Rules: If you have custom rewrite rules in your .htaccess file or if you are using an NGINX server, ensure that they are correctly configured to handle the sitemap URLs.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope to help you resolve it soon!
