    Hi,
Rank Math adds noindex to my homepage despite all settings possible set to index.

<meta name=”description” content=”Disability coaching and help for adults who have experienced a life-changing disability to rebuild a life filled with purpose so they can feel excited and supported again.”/>
    <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, follow”/>

Here are the steps I have done to troubleshoot
1-advanced setting for that page is set to index.
2-RankMath SEO default settings for Title & Meta is set to index
3-Wordpress settings -> Reading -> Discourage search engines from indexing is unchecked.
    4-I have deactivated other plugins
5-I have cleared caches when applicable
6-I have tested my robots.txt file, everything is allowed
7-the page was once set to coming soon in Spectra weeks ago but no longer is
8-When I deactivate RankMath and activate Yoast SEO, the issue disappears.

I prefer using Rank Math, but with the faulty noindex, I can’t…

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with Rank Math adding a noindex tag to your homepage. Thank you for providing detailed troubleshooting steps you’ve already taken; this helps us understand the situation better.

Here are a few additional steps you can take to ensure that the noindex tag is removed:

    1. Check the Rank Math Metabox: Open your homepage in the WordPress Editor and look for the Rank Math Metabox. Ensure that in the Advanced Tab, the Robots Meta is set to Index. If it’s set to No Index, change it to Index and update the page.
Set Robots Meta to index in Rank Math Metabox

    2. Global Settings: Double-check your global settings at WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Posts/Pages/Products/CPTs. Make sure that the default setting for your homepage is set to index.

    3. Check for Theme or Custom Code: Sometimes, themes or custom code can add a noindex tag. Check if your theme has any SEO settings that might be conflicting with Rank Math.

    4. Inspect the Source Code: After making changes, inspect the source code of your homepage to see if the noindex tag is still present. This can help confirm whether the changes have taken effect.

    5. Clear All Caches Again: Ensure that all caches (including server-side caches) are cleared after making changes.

If after trying these steps the issue persists, we recommend replying to your ticket with your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. They will be able to investigate more deeply into your specific setup and help resolve this issue.

Thank you for your patience, and we hope to get this resolved for you soon!

Good call on checking the metabox settings sometimes re-saving the page after toggling helps too. Faced a similar bug on a 3 patti boss site and re-indexing through Search Console fixed it.

I actually faced the same problem with my Dunkin prices website, so I know how stressful it can be when your homepage suddenly shows as noindex. In my case, even though I had everything set to index in Rank Math, the homepage was still being blocked.

What worked for me was first checking the page source to confirm if the noindex tag was really there. Then, I cleared the cache (both on the site and with my caching plugin), and also re-saved the Rank Math settings. After that, I went to WordPress > Settings > Reading to make sure “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” was not checked. Once I did these steps and re-submitted my site in the search console, the homepage was properly indexed again.

    Hello,

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it could be caused by one of your plugins/theme.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

When only Rank Math is activated with the default theme in troubleshooting mode, the correct robots meta is displayed. However, due to the sheer number of plugins on your site and time constraints, we are unable to complete the troubleshooting. Kindly follow this guide to determine the culprit after updating all your plugins/theme: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Let us know how this goes.

    Thank you.

Turns out the conflicting plug-in was One Page Checkout For Woocommerce. Upon its deletion, index tags started being inserted properly.

    Hello,

We are super happy that this resolved your issue. If you have any other questions in the future, know that we are here to help you.

If you don’t mind me asking, could you please leave us a review (if you haven’t already) on https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/seo-by-rank-math/reviews/#new-post about your overall experience with Rank Math? We appreciate your time and patience.

If you do have another question in the future, please feel free to create a new forum topic, and it will be our pleasure to assist you again.

    Thank you.
