Images not indexing

#1107012
  • Hi, I have a free wallpaper website, and my primary source of traffic is Google image search. I have been using RankMath, and it has been working well.

However, earlier this year, my images started de-indexing for some reason. I checked the sitemap generated by RankMath, and it doesn’t seem to register the images properly. Each of my pages has 30-40 images, but the sitemap says 1 image or even 0 for some.

Please see the screenshots on this link: https://imgur.com/a/l6LHIfs

    The website URL is https://wallpaperdelight.com/

Please help me with this issue, as it is impacting my revenue really badly. Please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your images not indexing properly. It sounds like a frustrating situation, especially since your traffic relies heavily on Google image search.

To improve the chances of your images being indexed correctly, here are a few steps you can take:

    1. Set Featured Images: Ensure that each of your posts has a featured image set. This helps Google understand which image is primary for the content. You can set a featured image in WordPress by navigating to your post settings and clicking on the Featured image section.
      Set featured image option

    2. Use Descriptive File Names: Make sure your images have descriptive file names that accurately describe their content. This helps search engines understand what the images are about.

    3. Check Image URLs: Ensure that the images are accessible and not blocked by any settings in your robots.txt file or through meta tags.

    4. Submit Your Sitemap: After making these adjustments, resubmit your sitemap to Google Search Console to ensure it reflects the changes. You can do this by copying your sitemap URL and using the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console.

    5. Request Indexing: For specific pages, you can also use the Request Indexing feature in Google Search Console after testing the live URL to see if it’s indexable.

    Hello,

We’ve checked the wallpaper images on your site, and they seem to be displayed as thumbnails and opening them into a gallery.

Please note that Rank Math detects only the images inserted inside the post_content, so images that were inserted on a page as a thumbnail, gallery, background, or slider will not be detected and included in the sitemap.

If you have a custom field for the images, you can also include them in Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > Posts > Image Custom Fields; this would help Rank Math detect the images.

However, even if those images are not included in the sitemap, Google will still be able to detect them when it crawls the page.

If it finds those images helpful for the image search, they will be indexed in Google Images.

    Looking forward to helping you.
