my product brand sitemap gives 404

#1104328
  • Hello Rank Math Team, The main problem is that the …/product_brand-sitemap.xml is goes into 404 and it is not adding to the main sitemap.
My WP is in italian and the website too. The “brand” word in the site is “marche” also in breadcrumbs. In permalink the “brand” word was “marchio” that I changed into “brand” in order to fit with the sitemap url. In rank math under taxonomi the section for “brand” is written “marchi” but in url is “brand”. The “marchi” name can’t be overwrite in rank math. I have the free version that does not let me regenerate oe refresh sitemap. What should I do to get the brand sitemap visible?
Thank you. Let me know if need further data.
    Best regards, Krisztina

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the product brand sitemap returning a 404 error. This can happen due to several reasons, especially when there are discrepancies in the permalink structure or taxonomy settings.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check Permalink Settings: Since you changed the permalink from "marchio" to "brand", ensure that your permalink settings are correctly configured. Go to Settings → Permalinks in your WordPress dashboard and make sure everything is set up as intended. After making any changes, save the settings to refresh the permalinks.

    2. Verify Taxonomy Settings: In Rank Math, ensure that the taxonomy for brands is correctly set. If it shows as "marchi" but you want it to be "brand", you may need to adjust this in the Rank Math settings under Rank Math → Titles & Meta → Taxonomies.

    3. Add Rewrite Rules: If you are using an Apache server, you might need to add rewrite rules to your .htaccess file. Here’s a sample code you can add:

      # START of Rank Math Sitemap Rewrite Rules
      RewriteEngine On
      RewriteBase /
      RewriteRule ^product_brand-sitemap.xml$ /index.php?sitemap=product_brand \[L
      # END of Rank Math Sitemap Rewrite Rules

Make sure to back up your .htaccess file before making any changes.

    4. Exclude Caching: If you are using a caching plugin, ensure that the sitemap is excluded from caching. This can sometimes cause issues with sitemap visibility.

    5. Check for Conflicts: Sometimes, other plugins can conflict with Rank Math. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.

Since you mentioned that you are using the free version of Rank Math, you may not have access to all features like regenerating the sitemap directly. If these steps do not resolve the issue, we recommend considering our professional setup service for comprehensive assistance, especially if you want to ensure everything is set up correctly according to SEO standards.

If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket with your website URL so that we can assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope this helps resolve your sitemap issue!

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

The chatbot doew not solve the problem. In rahnk math the name “marchi” is assigned by turning WP into italian as that was another issue (before was english but based in italy so the WP was needed to turn into italian) after that the brand word in rank math become marchi but in url remaind brand. And in permalink become marchio instead of marchi or brand. The point is the brand sitemap is not working and i need help with it.

    Hello,

You didn’t enable the sitemap for your brand page, as you can see from the screenshot below:

    Rank Math support

We have gone ahead and enabled it for you. Please note that you don’t have any brands created on your website at the moment, so once you add one, it should show up in the sitemap.

As for the taxonomy naming, please note that changing the brand permalink doesn’t affect the taxonomy name, as this is configured when it is generated by the plugin/theme that is responsible for managing this taxonomy.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any other questions.

    Dear Jeremy!

    Thank you very much!
I realized and understood yesterday that the problem probably with the brand sitemap is because the webguy did not created the brands at the brands place. He created them just as categories and probably that is why it did not show. Therefore yesterday I disabled the option and you saw it after that.
But thank you for the confirmation on this for me as I am not “webguy” yet. This gives stability.

So I believe the brands (we have three now, including separate pages on them) should be created as brands instead of just categories? Am I understand correctly? I wonder what happens if I now go a head and create the brands are this going to screw up my categories? Actually I also cross checked all the sitemaps and I saw that all my brand pages are also indexed. Would it make sence to anyway create a separate brand sitemap?

I will try to look for specific videos on this but if you know any please suggest for me.

    Thank you.
    Ml, Krisztina
