page returning cached 404; Rank Math redirect not firing

On staging tmblogstage.wpenginepowered.com I added a Rank Math redirect from:
    /community/living-in-indiana-communities-life-in-danville-in-where-is-danville-indiana-a-town-that-feels-like-home-local-spotlight/

However, requesting that URL returns a 404 and no Location: header, so WordPress/Rank Math isn’t processing the redirect. Could you please:

Confirm whether an edge/page cache is serving a cached 404 for that path.

Flush any cache for that exact URL or for the site (staging).

If page cache is disabled or empty, please check whether NGINX-level rules are serving the response before WordPress runs.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the redirect not firing and the cached 404 error. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check for Caching: Since you mentioned that the URL is returning a cached 404, it’s important to check if there is any edge or page caching in place. You can do this by temporarily disabling any caching plugins or services (like CDN) that might be serving cached content.

    2. Flush Cache: If you have access to your caching plugin or CDN settings, try flushing the cache for that specific URL or for the entire site. This will ensure that any cached versions of the page are cleared.

    3. NGINX Configuration: If the page cache is disabled or empty, you should check your NGINX configuration. Sometimes, NGINX rules can serve responses before WordPress processes the request. Look for any rewrite rules in your NGINX configuration that might be affecting this URL.

    4. Check .htaccess or NGINX Config: If you are using Apache, check your .htaccess file for any conflicting rules. For NGINX, ensure that there are no conflicting rules in your nginx.conf file that could be causing this issue. You can refer to our guide on how to edit your .htaccess file for more details.

    5. Rank Math Redirects: Ensure that the redirect you created in Rank Math is set up correctly. You can verify this by going to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math SEO → Redirections and checking if the redirect is listed and active.

If after following these steps the issue persists, please reply to this ticket with any additional details or findings, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further. Thank you for your understanding!
