At the moment, Divi 5 Alpha is still under active development and testing. Rank Math is currently compatible only with the stable version of Divi.
Once the final stable version of Divi 5 is released, we will work to ensure full compatibility and announce it through our usual communication channels.

So just to clarify, does that mean I cannot use RM in any way at all while using Divi 5 without further development by RM?

Yes, Rank Math may not work on Divi 5 at the moment.
Since Divi 5 is still in its alpha stage, it’s not expected to have full compatibility with third-party plugins yet, including Rank Math. Alpha releases are primarily for testing and aren’t recommended for production or full-feature use.
Once Divi 5 reaches a stable release, we’ll ensure Rank Math is fully compatible.
