Indexing Issues and Invalid Sitemap on Google Search Console

I am experiencing an issue with the indexing of my website (https://sincotta.it) using Rank Math SEO. Although the site is live and correctly configured (robots.txt is valid, pages are indexable, and internal linking works), Google Search Console does not detect any URLs from the sitemap generated by Rank Math.

    Specifically:

The homepage is missing from the sitemap, so I am unable to submit it manually in Search Console.
Google Search Console shows “0 URLs detected” for all submitted sitemaps, and indicates that no crawl has taken place, nor is there any referring page.
The robots.txt file is correct and allows crawling.
Pages are properly interlinked, with a functioning internal structure.
The integration between Rank Math and Google Search Console appears to be active, but does not seem to be functioning properly: there is no match between what is shown in GSC and the actual site structure.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the indexing of your website and the sitemap generated by Rank Math SEO. Thank you for providing detailed information about your situation.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Validate Your Sitemap: Ensure that your sitemap is correctly configured. You can use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to check for any issues. Enter your sitemap URL (e.g., `https://technicalseo.com/tools/robots-txt/) and click VALIDATE SITEMAP.

    2. Check Sitemap Location: Make sure your sitemap is located in the root folder of your WordPress installation. The correct URL should be `https://technicalseo.com/tools/robots-txt/.

    3. Ensure Posts Are Set to Index: If all your posts are set to noindex, your sitemap will be empty. Go to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and ensure that the Index checkbox is enabled for your posts.
      Index Titles and Meta settings

    4. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Sometimes, other plugins can conflict with Rank Math. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.

    5. Review Robots.txt File: Double-check your robots.txt file to ensure there are no directives blocking Google from crawling your site. You can edit it in Rank Math under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Edit robots.txt.
      Edit robots.txt in Rank Math

    6. Re-submit Your Sitemap: After making any necessary changes, re-submit your sitemap in Google Search Console to see if it resolves the issue.

If these steps do not resolve the problem, we recommend replying to this ticket with any additional details or errors you encounter, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Thank you for your patience, and we hope to help you resolve this issue soon!

    Hello,

Thank you so much for getting in touch.

We’ve checked your homepage, and it is currently indexed. Regarding the “0 URLs detected” in Google Search Console, this usually means Google hasn’t used the sitemap to discover URLs yet, which is not uncommon. Sitemaps are just one of the many ways Google discovers content.

Please review the Indexing > Pages section in your GSC to identify any issues affecting indexing:

Also, this article explains why GSC may show zero discovered URLs even when the sitemap is working:
