    Hi Team,

I wanted to confirm if my approach aligns with SEO best practices.

I initially targeted “chick-fil-A menu” on my homepage, but impressions were low with zero clicks. Later, I published a post under a category targeting “chick-fil-a menu with prices,” but neither the homepage nor the post ranked, likely due to cannibalization.

I resolved this by redirecting the post to the homepage, cleaning up irrelevant homepage content, and drafting the category post to avoid duplication. I’d like to know if this approach is correct from an SEO and plugin handling perspective, and if there’s anything in Rank Math settings I should adjust for smooth indexing and ranking signals.

    Appreciate your guidance.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing. Your approach to resolving the keyword cannibalization issue seems to be on the right track. Redirecting the post to the homepage can help consolidate the ranking signals, especially if both pages were targeting similar keywords. Cleaning up irrelevant content on your homepage and ensuring that your category post is unique and well-optimized is also a good practice.

To further enhance your SEO efforts with Rank Math, consider the following:

    1. Check Redirections: Ensure that the redirection from the post to the homepage is set up correctly in Rank Math. You can do this by navigating to Rank Math > Redirections in your WordPress dashboard.
      Rank Math Redirections Tab

    2. Optimize Titles and Meta Descriptions: Make sure that both your homepage and category post have unique titles and meta descriptions that accurately reflect their content. You can adjust these settings under Rank Math > Titles & Meta.
      Categories Title & Meta Settings

    3. Use Focus Keywords: Assign focus keywords for both your homepage and category post in Rank Math to help guide your optimization efforts.

    4. Monitor Indexing: Use the Rank Math 404 Monitor and Redirection Manager to keep track of any issues that may arise after making these changes.

If you want a more comprehensive setup or if you’re unsure about any specific settings, we recommend considering our professional setup service, which requires a PRO subscription. You can find more information about it here.
