Faulty redirects that shouldn’t be in place.

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with the faulty redirects and URL changes on your WordPress site. It sounds quite frustrating. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check for Existing Redirects in Rank Math

Even though you mentioned there are no redirects in place, it’s worth double-checking the Rank Math redirection settings:

    • Go to Rank Math SEO → Redirections and ensure there are no active redirects that might be affecting your URLs.

    2. Review .htaccess File

Check your .htaccess file for any unexpected rules that might be causing the redirects. You can do this directly from your WordPress dashboard:

    • Navigate to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Edit .htaccess.
    • Look for any redirection rules that may have been added inadvertently and remove them if necessary.

    edit .htaccess

    3. Check for Theme or Plugin Conflicts

Sometimes, themes or other plugins can interfere with URL settings. To check for conflicts:

    • Temporarily switch to a default WordPress theme (like Twenty Twenty-One) and see if the issue persists.
    • Deactivate all plugins except Rank Math and check if the problem continues. If it resolves, reactivate your plugins one by one to identify the culprit.

    4. Update Permalinks Again

Since you’ve already tried updating permalinks, ensure you do it again after checking the above:

    • Go to Settings → Permalinks and simply click Save Changes without making any modifications.

    5. Clear Cache

If you have any caching plugins or server-side caching, clear all caches to ensure you’re seeing the latest changes.

    6. Manual URL Change

If the URL keeps reverting to -2, try changing it to a completely different slug temporarily, save it, and then change it back to the desired URL.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, we recommend replying to this ticket with your site URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. Thank you for your patience, and we hope to get this resolved for you soon!

I have done the above steps. I can confirm there is no redirect in the htaccess code. It appears to be an issue that only started yesterday, once I was updating the pages.

I’ve just updated this page https://www.mipac.com.au/products/alarm-manager-4/ and it’s had the same issue too.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

The number is added if there are other URLs with the same slug. Please check your URLs as well if it’s getting duplicated.

If none, then this happens when the Redirect Attachments option is enabled on your site, and you have a media or attachment URL with the same slug.

If that is the case, you can re-upload the media with a different file name or at least rename the attachment URL to a different slug to avoid getting the -2 or -3 in the last part of the URL.

Let us know how this goes.

    Hi,

There are no other pages with this number. Every time I am updating the page and press Publish, it goes from /alarm-manager to /alarm-manager-2. 3 pages have now done this. It seems like it is an error either with Rank Maths or Elementor that is causing this to happen every time I update a page in the last two days.

All of the media has a different URL, it has the date in it eg uploads/2025/06/. So there is no media or attachments with the same name.

As previously mentioned, there are NO other versions with the same name, not published, not in draft, not in images. I’ve cleared the links multiple times and it’s not resolving the issue.

    Hello,

In this case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hi,

I had a ticket open with Elementor as well, and they’ve managed to resolve the issue: https://www.loom.com/share/9b893ef9cc7947a39e292f176472edb9?sid=401d7c6b-87c0-4283-80af-d1ea2f2f828a
