  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your site title appearing as the URL in Google search results instead of your site name. This can happen for several reasons related to how Google determines the site name to display.

Google typically checks the following locations to identify your site name:

    1. The name in your homepage’s title tag.
    2. The name in your homepage’s H1 header tag.
    3. The name in your homepage’s Open Graph metadata.
    4. The name in the WebSite structured data on your site.

If these locations do not contain your site name or have conflicting information, Google may default to displaying the homepage URL instead.

To resolve this, you should ensure that your site name is correctly set in these areas:

    • Homepage Title Tag: Go to WordPress Dashboard → Settings and enter your site name in the Site Title field.
    • H1 Header Tag: If your homepage is set to display a static page, make sure the page title includes your site name.
    • Open Graph Metadata: If you are using Rank Math, this is automatically handled for you.
    • Structured Data: Ensure that the site name is correctly filled in the Schema settings under Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Local SEO.

For more detailed instructions, you can refer to our article on Why Google Displays URL Instead of Site Name in SERP.

If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

Why Google Displays URL Instead of Site Name in SERP? » Rank Math

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please note that there are various sources that Google uses to define your site name on SERPs including:

    • og:site_name meta tag
    • WebSite structured data
    • Content in title elements
    • Heading elements

Among them, Rank Math automatically includes the og:site_name meta tag and the WebSite Schema on your website, and the rest you’ll have to include manually. You can also check the Google documentation on site-name: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names

However, as is mentioned in the documentation, this process is automated by the algorithm and even though it takes into account the information on the website, it is still not guaranteed that your site name will come up correctly in Google SERPs since it’s solely decided by Google what they found relevant and user-friendly and which one they want to show.

Hope this helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
