    Hello,

I want to ask that when I added the sitemap on GSC previously, it showed 115 Discovered pages. But now, when I add the sitemap on GSC, it shows only 4 Discovered pages. So why is this happening? I request you please have a look into this matter and do the needful.

    Thanks

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap in Google Search Console (GSC). The discrepancy in the number of discovered pages can occur due to several reasons:

    1. Technical Issues: There might be technical problems preventing Google from crawling all your pages. Check for any restrictions in your robots.txt file or any server issues that might be affecting the crawling process.

    2. Sitemap Submission: Ensure that you are submitting the correct XML sitemap URL. It should typically be https://yourdomainname/sitemap_index.xml. If you have multiple sitemaps, make sure they are all included in the sitemap index.

    3. Content Quality: Google may prioritize certain pages over others based on content quality. If some pages have thin or duplicate content, they might not be indexed.

    4. Recent Changes: If you made recent changes to your site, such as removing or changing content, this could affect how many pages are discovered.

    5. Indexing Delay: Sometimes, it takes time for Google to crawl and index new or updated pages.

    To troubleshoot further, you can:

    • Check for any technical issues that might prevent crawling, such as slow load times or broken links.
    • Include internal links to the pages from other high-traffic and relevant pages on your site.
    • Review your robots.txt file to ensure it’s not blocking any important pages.

Every thing as you said I have done. And also, I have given many times for Google to crawl and index the sitemap but still no result. Please suggest!

    Hello,

Please note that each time Google uses a sitemap to find a URL, the number of discovered URLs increases by one.

Sitemaps are only one of the few methods Google uses to discover your URLs, so it is fine for your articles to be referred to by other URLs on your site.

Also, when the count of the Discovered URLs is zero or does not match your actual sitemap in your Google Search Console, it means Google didn’t use the sitemap to find the URLs.

    Looking forward to helping you.
